Unveiling the Essence of the Ethiopian Jebena
Location
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
An integral aspect of Ethiopia's culture, depicted in this mesmerizing collection of Jebenas. Traditional Ethiopian coffee brewing pots used to prepare rich, aromatic coffee, made just today ready to be fired. Taken in Kechene Pottery, a local pottery cooperative run solely by women here in Addis Ababa. The beauty of the raw clay Jebenas is captured as they arranged in a pattern, waiting to be dried and fired. Made by skilled artisans who have been honing their craft for generations. The clay is collected from nearby riverbanks or hillsides, then mixed the clay with water and let it sit for several days to remove any impurities. Once the clay is clean, it is kneaded by hand to make it pliable and ready for shaping. The potters here don't use a wheel and the shaping process is done on a slack of stone. The undried clay Jebenas have a rustic charm to them, the handmade texture in each pot. is visible The Jebenas are a symbol of Ethiopian hospitality, and a cup of coffee served from these pots is a sign of respect and warmth. The photo is a testament to the beauty of traditional craftsmanship and the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
